Laura Gutiérrez ’12: "From corporate social responsibility to social disaster: Bangladesh Garment Industry and US Corporations" Laura Gutiérrez undertook a research Fulbright in Bangladesh in 2012-13 focused on labor organizing in the garment industry. During this time a series of disasters occurred in this industry, including the Savar Building collapse which killed over 1,000 workers. Laura Gutiérrez will speak about her research on labor conditions in Bangladesh and the responses of the labor movement in Bangladesh, the Bangladeshi government and corporations such as Walmart to these disasters. Attendees are invited to get lunch in McConnell Dining Room and come listen to Laura in the Founders Room.
